    Monthly Meetings - Houston

The monthly meetings begin with a general interest program, followed by small group discussions where members share their journeys and learn from each other. These small sharing groups -- the heart of PFLAG -- are designed for confidential sharing of concerns in a community of caring people who listen, learn and grow. Whether you are attending for the first time or are a regular attendee, you will find support from those who attend the small groups. Sometimes we nurture, sometimes we seek to be nurtured. In the small groups you will find that you always have a home in PFLAG!

A special straight spouse support group also meets during the small groups portion of the monthly meeting. The PFLAG-Houston Straight Spouse Support Group deals with the effects of a spouse's acknowledgment of a homosexual or bisexual orientation upon a once-traditional marriage. We discuss the complex and important issues associated with such a relationship. Our goal is to strengthen relationships so that they will be authentic, caring and responsible, no matter which path the couple has chosen.

After the meeting all are invited to gather at Cafe Express in the Museum of Fine Arts Beck Building, 5601 Main, 1/2 block south of the church. We enjoy delicious food, great conversation, and wonderful company!

    Upcoming Monthly Meetings:

    March 7, 2010 - GLBT Parenting
The March 7th general meeting will consist of a panel of families headed by GLBT individuals. Three families, two headed by male couples and one headed by a female couple will share their stories. Parenting is an adventure. GLBT parents encounter the challenges that all parents encounter and additonal obstacles due to their family constellation. Our panelists will share their own experiences, concerns, and joys as parents. Come learn about their experiences and how you can help support the families in our community.

April 11, 2010 - Hot Topics in Advocacy (Please note this is the second Sunday because of Easter)
We are pleased to welcome Meghan Stabler, a member of the Human Right Campaign Board of Directors and an alumnus of President Obama's national LGBT Policy Committee to our general meeting on Sunday, April 11th. Meghan will discuss current hot issues for GLBT advocates with a particular focus on initiatives unfolding at the federal level. She will suggest meaningful actions we each can take to promote an equality agenda. Mike Migura, will also discuss current issues facing GLBT youth in the foster care system. You'll leave this meeting with ideas for concrete things you can do to make a difference for our community.
