Dr. Chappell holds a PhD in Microbiology and Immunology and is a
Professor at the University of Texas Health Science Center's School of
Public Health and an adjunct faculty member at Baylor College of
Medicine. In addition to her research and teaching, she serves in an
administrative role as the Associate Dean for Academic affairs at the UT
School of Public Health. Her current research includes studies on the
pathogenesis of, and immune response to, human parasitic diseases. Dr.
Chappell is the author of more than 65 scientific and textbook chapters
as well as a number of technical reports. She has also been active in
"translating" the primary scientific literature to the lay audience.
Her interest in the genetics of homosexuality stem from her involvement
as a PFLAG parent.
