Stuart W. Twemlow MD is a Psychoanalyst and Psychiatrist who has for 40 years worked in communities researching the causes of violence and ways to promote peace in consultation with schools, cities, corporations, the FBI, and governments in third world countries.
He is Director of the Peaceful Schools and Communities Research program at the Baylor College of Medicine, and is Professor of Psychiatry in the Menninger Department of Psychiatry, Baylor College of Medicine, Houston, TX. He is a founding editor of the International Journal of Applied Psychoanalytic Studies,and has written over 200 articles, books, and book chapters.
Dr. Twemlow is active in sponsoring educational programs and establishing Community Psychoanalysis within the International and American Psychoanalytic Associations. Many of his ideas are derived from a life long study and practice of the martial and meditative arts. He is a 7th degree black belt and master teacher (Renshi) in Kenpo Karate and Kobudo (weapons), a student of Zen, and an exhibited black ink brush painter.
